A little of my (Roger's) journey...

15 years ago I suffered from intense anxiety, panic, uncontrollable phobias, clinical depression and destructive self talk.

I didn't know who I was, or where I was going in life.

I had suffered horrible spiritual abuse and toxic religion.

I was suicidal.

I was utterly broken.

Today I am totally free, have completed a bachelor degree in ministry, have six wonderful children, pastor a healthy church, operate a successful engineering business, and through the tools within this book - and our counselling sessions - help MANY people to also discover the same keys to success and healing I have found.

The foundation of Debbie's and my counselling ministry is that Spiritual Health and Emotional Health are Inseparable Twin Sisters and is found in our Pastoral Counselling Book - Foundations for Life. Over 200 pages of resources, workshops, professional diagnostic tests and counselling tools.

Roger's qualifications are a Bachelor's Degree in Ministry - which involves aspects of Pastoral Care and Counselling, plus NZIM papers in Communication and Human Resource Development, as well as an introduction to Psychology (before switching to Theology part way through the study) Debbie has also completed papers in Pastoral Care and Counselling.

We have been happily married since 1985 and have six wonderful children, and have been fulltime pastors at Te Atatu Baptist church since the year 2000. In our personal lives, we have had to overcome many of the obstacles we help others overcome.

We offer counselling to those committed to our church family, and would consider appointments from those without.

We ask each person to purchase our Foundations For Life workbook - as this is used every time in our counselling sessions - $50 per book. This will become your workbook throughout your recovery - and a priceless treasure and resource for the rest of your life.

Here's a tool I have found to be helpful when one or either spouse is unwilling to face-up to the direction in which their marriage is heading, or how they are contributing to the destruction of it.

It is a blank divorce certificate. The reality is that I get sent one of these around every month, with people's names on it who were married in this church in the decades before I became pastor.

In counselling, I ask the client/spouse to consider writing his/her details on it - and begin to realise that unless something drastic happens in their heart, life and mood - then divorce and the death that comes from it - is a very real possibility.
